What to highlight at your experience level

Fresher / 0-2 years

Name the brands and categories you supported, and the parts you handled - consumer research, launch coordination, trade marketing or social content. Live projects and summer internships from your MBA count, so describe the brief and the outcome.

2-5 years

Show the brand or SKUs you owned, launches and campaigns you led, budgets and the results - sales growth, market share, distribution or brand tracking scores. Mention agencies and cross-functional teams you worked with.

5+ years

Show the portfolio and P&L you owned, the brand strategy you set and how it changed the business. Recruiters look for category growth, big launches or repositioning, and teams you led.

Common Brand Manager resume mistakes

  • Describing campaigns without results - say what happened to sales, share, penetration or brand tracking afterwards.
  • Not naming the category or brand. "Managed a personal care brand" is weaker than naming the brand, its size and the channels it sold through.
  • Leaving out budgets and scale, such as media spend, number of SKUs or markets.
  • Treating digital as an afterthought. Many brand roles now expect performance marketing, e-commerce and quick commerce experience, so mention it if you have it.
  • Using tables, icons or two-column layouts that ATS software can misread. A simple single-column PDF is safest.

Weak vs strong resume bullet points

The strong versions say what you did, with which tool, and what changed because of it.

Weak: Managed brand campaigns.

Strong: Led a regional TV and digital campaign for a packaged snacks brand in Maharashtra and Gujarat, working with the creative and media agencies, which lifted volume sales in those states by about 12% that quarter.

Weak: Handled new product launch.

Strong: Launched 3 new SKUs for a D2C haircare brand, from consumer research and pricing to listing on Amazon, Nykaa and quick commerce, reaching break-even on the launch budget in five months.

Weak: Did market research.

Strong: Ran consumer research with Kantar and in-store interviews to understand why repeat purchase was low, and used the findings to change the pack size, which improved repeat rate in the next tracking wave.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an MBA to become a brand manager?

Many FMCG companies in India hire brand managers from MBA programmes, so it is common. D2C brands and startups often hire on experience instead, especially from digital marketing, sales or category roles. Either way, show the brands you worked on and what you achieved.

How do I move from sales to brand management?

Highlight the parts of your sales work that touched the brand - trade promotions, launches in your territory, market feedback and consumer insight. Show numbers from your territory and any marketing projects you contributed to.

Is this resume checker free?

Yes. You can upload your resume and see the results without creating an account. If you sign up later with the same email, the full report and your job matches are saved to your profile.

What does the checker look at?

It reads your resume the way an ATS and a recruiter would: the role it fits, your experience level, the skills it finds, and how clearly your work and results come across. You get strengths and areas to improve.

What happens to my resume after I upload it?

It is saved to a RoleMapr profile under the email in your resume, and that profile is visible to recruiters looking for candidates. We email that address a link to remove it at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details.
