Free ATS Resume Checker for Database Administrators

Recruiters hiring database administrators usually shortlist on the database platform and version first - Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL or MySQL - then look for backup and recovery, high availability and performance tuning work. Upload your resume to see how it reads, which DBA skills it shows, and what to improve before you apply.

By uploading, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy. Your CV is saved to a RoleMapr profile under the email in it, and that profile is visible to recruiters - even before you create an account.

What to highlight at your experience level

Fresher / 0-2 years

Lead with strong SQL and the database you know best, plus installation, user management, backups and basic monitoring. Labs where you set up replication or restored a backup are worth describing.

2-5 years

Show the environments you managed - number and size of databases, versions, and HA setups such as Data Guard or Always On - along with patching, upgrades and performance issues you fixed.

5+ years

Show ownership of data platform decisions - HA and disaster recovery design, major upgrades or cloud migrations to RDS or Azure SQL, standards and automation, and the DBAs you led.

Common Database Administrator resume mistakes

  • Not stating versions. "Oracle DBA" says less than Oracle 19c on RAC with Data Guard.
  • Leaving out database size and count. Managing 5 databases and managing 200 are very different jobs.
  • Listing performance tuning with no example of a slow query, report or batch job you actually improved.
  • Formatting the skills section as a table split across columns, which some ATS software reads in a jumbled order. A simple list is safer.
  • Ignoring cloud. If you have worked with AWS RDS, Aurora or Azure SQL, mention it - many teams are moving databases there.

Weak vs strong resume bullet points

The strong versions say what you did, with which tool, and what changed because of it.

Weak: Managed Oracle databases.

Strong: Managed 30 Oracle 19c databases (up to 4 TB) on RAC with Data Guard for a banking client, handling quarterly patching and monthly DR drills.

Weak: Did performance tuning.

Strong: Used execution plans and AWR reports to rewrite queries and add indexes for a month-end billing job, bringing its runtime down from about 5 hours to under 1.

Weak: Took backups of databases.

Strong: Set up pgBackRest backups with point-in-time recovery for PostgreSQL production databases and tested restores every month, so recovery steps were documented and proven.

Frequently asked questions

Which certifications help a database administrator resume?

Oracle Database Administration Certified Professional (OCP) is well known for Oracle DBAs, and Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate (DP-300) suits SQL Server and Azure work. For cloud databases, AWS Certified Database - Specialty was retired, so an AWS associate certification plus hands-on RDS experience is a reasonable alternative.

Should a DBA resume cover more than one database?

List all the databases you have genuinely worked with, but make your main platform clear. Many companies run more than one, so Oracle plus PostgreSQL or SQL Server plus MySQL can widen your options. Avoid listing databases you only used in a course.

Is this resume checker free?

Yes. You can upload your resume and see the results without creating an account. If you sign up later with the same email, the full report and your job matches are saved to your profile.

What does the checker look at?

It reads your resume the way an ATS and a recruiter would: the role it fits, your experience level, the skills it finds, and how clearly your work and results come across. You get strengths and areas to improve.

What happens to my resume after I upload it?

It is saved to a RoleMapr profile under the email in your resume, and that profile is visible to recruiters looking for candidates. We email that address a link to remove it at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details.
