Free ATS Resume Checker for Data Engineers

Recruiters hiring data engineers screen on SQL, Python and Spark, plus the cloud and warehouse stack you have used - AWS, Azure or GCP with tools like Snowflake, Databricks or BigQuery. Upload your resume to see how it reads, which data engineering skills it shows, and what to improve before you apply.

By uploading, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy. Your CV is saved to a RoleMapr profile under the email in it, and that profile is visible to recruiters - even before you create an account.

What to highlight at your experience level

Fresher / 0-2 years

Show strong SQL and Python first, then one pipeline project that moves data from a source to a warehouse on a schedule - for example with Airflow and a cloud free tier. Explain the data volume and how you handled failures.

2-5 years

Show pipelines you owned in production - data volumes, refresh frequency, SLAs and the teams that depended on them. Mention runtime or cost improvements and how you monitored data quality.

5+ years

Show platform-level work - designing the data model or lakehouse, choosing between batch and streaming, setting standards for testing and orchestration, and guiding other engineers through migrations.

Common Data Engineer resume mistakes

  • Listing every tool in the ecosystem. Recruiters trust a focused stack you clearly used more than twenty tool names with no context.
  • Not mentioning scale - rows per day, GB or TB processed, number of sources. Without it, a pipeline could be a weekend script.
  • Describing ETL work only as "maintained pipelines" instead of what you built, fixed or sped up.
  • Leaving out the cloud you worked on. Many job filters are cloud-specific, so name AWS, Azure or GCP and the services you used.
  • Designer templates with icons and columns. A plain single-column layout keeps your tool names readable to ATS software.

Weak vs strong resume bullet points

The strong versions say what you did, with which tool, and what changed because of it.

Weak: Developed ETL pipelines using Spark.

Strong: Built PySpark jobs on Databricks that load about 50 million order events a day into Delta tables, replacing a nightly SQL Server job that often ran into business hours.

Weak: Worked on Airflow.

Strong: Moved 30 cron-based scripts to Airflow DAGs with retries and alerts, so failed loads were caught within minutes instead of by report users the next morning.

Weak: Optimised queries in Snowflake.

Strong: Reworked clustering and switched heavy dbt models to incremental loads in Snowflake, cutting the daily warehouse refresh from about 3 hours to 40 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Which cloud certification helps a data engineer resume?

A certification for the cloud you want to work on helps most - for example Microsoft's Azure data engineering certification, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer, or an AWS data certification. They support your resume but do not replace hands-on pipeline experience.

Can I switch from ETL testing or SQL development to data engineering?

Yes, it is a common path. Highlight the SQL, data validation and ETL tools you already use, then add Python, Spark and one cloud through a project or new work in your current team.

Is this resume checker free?

Yes. You can upload your resume and see the results without creating an account. If you sign up later with the same email, the full report and your job matches are saved to your profile.

What does the checker look at?

It reads your resume the way an ATS and a recruiter would: the role it fits, your experience level, the skills it finds, and how clearly your work and results come across. You get strengths and areas to improve.

What happens to my resume after I upload it?

It is saved to a RoleMapr profile under the email in your resume, and that profile is visible to recruiters looking for candidates. We email that address a link to remove it at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details.
