Free ATS Resume Checker for UI/UX Designers

Recruiters hiring UI/UX designers check for tools like Figma, then go straight to your portfolio to see your process - research, flows, iterations and final screens. Your resume has to get past the ATS first and make the portfolio easy to find. Upload your resume to see how it reads, which UI/UX skills it shows, and what to improve before you apply.

By uploading, you agree to our Terms and Privacy Policy. Your CV is saved to a RoleMapr profile under the email in it, and that profile is visible to recruiters - even before you create an account.

What to highlight at your experience level

Fresher / 0-2 years

Put your portfolio link at the top and lead with 2-3 case studies that show the problem, your research and how the design changed. A redesign of a real app with usability testing is worth more than a set of visual mockups.

2-5 years

Show features you designed that shipped, the users they served and what changed - task completion, support tickets, conversion. Mention working with PMs and developers, handoff and contributions to a design system.

5+ years

Show ownership of a product area or design system, research you led that changed product direction, and designers you mentored or reviewed. Recruiters look for how you influenced decisions, not just screens.

Common UI/UX Designer resume mistakes

  • Sending a heavily designed resume with columns, icons, graphics and text inside images. ATS software often misreads these - keep the resume simple and let the portfolio show your visual skills.
  • Hiding the portfolio link in a footer, an image or a QR code. Put it as plain text near your name so both the ATS and recruiters can find it.
  • Listing only tools - Figma, Adobe XD, Miro - without saying what you designed or what problem it solved.
  • Showing only final screens and no process. Mention research, user flows, testing and iterations in your bullets.
  • Using skill bars or star ratings for tools. They mean nothing to an ATS and recruiters cannot tell what "4 out of 5 in Figma" means.

Weak vs strong resume bullet points

The strong versions say what you did, with which tool, and what changed because of it.

Weak: Designed screens for the mobile app in Figma.

Strong: Designed the order tracking and returns flow for a D2C fashion app in Figma, tested prototypes with 8 customers and cut return-related support tickets by about a quarter after launch.

Weak: Created a design system.

Strong: Built a Figma design system with tokens and 60+ components for a B2B SaaS product, which shortened design-to-dev handoff and kept 3 product teams' screens consistent.

Weak: Did user research for the product.

Strong: Ran 12 usability tests on the invoice creation flow for small business users in Tier 2 cities, found 4 major drop-off points and redesigned the form, raising completed invoices per user.

Frequently asked questions

Should a UI/UX designer resume include a portfolio link?

Yes - for most design roles the portfolio matters as much as the resume. Add it as a plain, clickable URL near your name, and make sure it opens without a login or password. Keep 2-4 case studies that explain your process, not just final screens.

Can a designer use a creative resume template?

It is safer not to. Multi-column layouts, graphics and text inside images are often misread by ATS software, so your skills and experience may not be picked up. Use a clean single-column resume and show your visual skills in the portfolio.

Is this resume checker free?

Yes. You can upload your resume and see the results without creating an account. If you sign up later with the same email, the full report and your job matches are saved to your profile.

What does the checker look at?

It reads your resume the way an ATS and a recruiter would: the role it fits, your experience level, the skills it finds, and how clearly your work and results come across. You get strengths and areas to improve.

What happens to my resume after I upload it?

It is saved to a RoleMapr profile under the email in your resume, and that profile is visible to recruiters looking for candidates. We email that address a link to remove it at any time. See our Privacy Policy for details.
